Something to consider: The Tamiya kit comes with Dunlop tires. Raised lettering on those, so they'll have to be sanded off. Barbour's Hawaiian Tropic drove with Goodyears (as is reflected in the subject decals). The Raceworks Goodyear decals go on the car body; there are no decals for the tires' sidewalls. For accuracy, should they go bare? I couldn't find any photo actually showing Barbour's 935, so I can't tell if Goodyear was painted on the sidewalls. Scale Design's 1/24 transkit decals for Barbour's 935 does not include sidewall decals, either. But Exoto's 1/18 die-cast version has Goodyear painted on the sidewalls. Is this a conflict by intent or omission?
Should the Hawaiian Tropic 935 have Goodyear painted on or not? Either way, it's a bit of a problem since, even bare, the tires may need to have "Goodyear" with the raised edges. Are there any aftermarket 1/12 Goodyears out there?

The photos I have seen of the car show no white lettering on the tires. I'm not sure yet on what I'll do about the Goodyear tires, I'm thinking of using tire stencils to paint Goodyear. I think we're out of luck finding 1/12 Goodyears with raised lettering for the 935 unless someone wants to resin cast some. Anyone? LoL

The conversion form the Martini car to the Hawaiian Tropic car is not trivial. In addition to the "running boards" on the side of the body, the engine configuration is a big issue. There were major changes in the intercooler configuration between 1976 and 1979. By now I have seen so many photos of 935/936 engines that I couldn't begin to tell which one is correct for the 1979 car. You also have to consider the fast that it is a private rather than factory car which really adds another wrinkle. As best as I can tell, the 1979 car used an air to air intercooler which may have been placed in the rear seat area.

It sounds like it would be tough putting together any sort of viable list of alternative livery (at least ones that don't require major structural changes). After ffracer's good, cautionary comments, I looked at a couple of dozen 935 decals (stand-alone and kit decals, and regardless of the scale); in one way or another, all differed externally from our Martini 935. With that said, I don't think any modifications -- even extremely difficult ones -- are necessarily impossible. But the end results might not match the quality and accuracy we're all aiming for. (In my case, it definitely wouldn't.) That's why I bought the SMS kit in the first place and NOT opt to start scratch-building improvements (especially the type that require machining and photo-etching skills).
For myself, short of spending a huge amount of time researching info that may not even be out there and available to a hobbyist like me, I may just give myself a month and take my best shot based on what I CAN determine, verify a good match between whatever alternate scheme I find, and what Tamiya and SMS gave us, then hope that certain details that could never be (practically) verified, do indeed match -- maybe! Now if I can't find a match, then... Martini, here I come! (Both the drink and the scheme.)
By the way, if anyone out there finds "usable" livery, LET... US... KNOW! Please.

In my research on the HT car from 1978 here are the differences I've found.
1. Dual turbo 2. Air to air intercooler protruding into passenger compartment. 3. Air intake for intercooler through rear side windows? 4. Different air plenum and injection stacks. 5. Dash mounted turbo boost control. 6. Different oil cooling system? 7. Front radiator screen. 8. Different headlight configuration. 9. Running boards 10. Two stage rear wing. 11. Removable rear fenders. 12. Grey interior.
That's it so far. I'm sure there's more. The turbo plumbing and intercooler would be the hardest parts and would require considerable scratchbuilding. Please feel free to add to this list if you know of anything else. I'll be getting my kits today and will be reviewing the possiblity of doing the HT conversion this week.

There's a small, colour 3/4 front view of the H/T car in an older issue of Lemans & sportscar racing mag, which shows the Goodyear logo on the front driver's tire. This appears to be a stencilled logo, but can't really tell....small photo.
The photo also shows the driver's outside mirror raised and mounted on the A pillar, rather than top of the door. The blue and the yellow H/T cars are in the background and covered partially with US Flags.

G------- Logo was indeed on the tires. Don't wish to say the whole G word in the event there are corprate lurkers out there who might wish to slam me for unauthorized re-production of a trade name! Those searching for alternate schemes may wish to look at the Jagermeister 935 from the following year. Driven By J Icyx and M Shurti among others. Decal sheet is already around. Tamiya 934 kit. Here's a link to the Jagermeister (a scale model with the scheme, anyway): www.kunta-ripley.com/m_cars/6_racing/p935-2/p935_2.htmIt shows the Tamiya 1/20 kit (No.20005). That kit also includes the scheme for the No.1 Martini. A couple of weeks ago, I was considering doing this one, but the orange/brown/black scheme put me off, and I just couldn't talk myself into it.

the photos you recently posted are beautiful work. Not to worry about any other color than orange. All else are decals. Big difference will(soon as I post photo) be that the one I have in mind has the door skirts.. Steve

Here's a photo of the 935/78 that Steve sent me: Running boards and lights would not be a problem, the intercooler and dual turbos on the other hand.... Tim

This car does not have twin turbos. Ex factory car per kit engine.Body work and a few details are different. Boost control is on the floor. Steve
